Representative Joe Gibbons has demonstrated a commitment to community association issues over the last several years with his yearly participation in Community Association Day in Tallahassee, his attendance at Roundtable events dedicated to identifying the needs and goals of common interest ownership residents and his most recent involvement in bringing justice to the Parker Plaza condominium community in Hallandale. Representative Gibbons worked tirelessly with local law enforcement to investigate and ultimately pursue community members accused of fraud and financial misdealing.

This year, Representative Gibbons sponsored HB 1365 which contained emergency powers language to guide boards of directors when preparing their communities before a storm arrives and dealing with the post-storm aftermath. Without this kind of guidance, boards can be left directionless in terms of what steps they can and should be taking in terms of boarding up their building and preventing residents from returning to their homes until it is determined that the building is safe to enter. Unfortunately, HB 1365 did not pass this year but there is tremendous support amongst community association residents to see this kind of language return next year.

Representative Gibbons has shown himself to be a true champion to the significant percentage of Florida's population living in common interest ownership communities.
