CAN ALERT: Dates and Times for Select Committee on Condominium and Homeowners Association Governance Meetings Released Only to a Select Group

Dear  We have just received information that the dates and times for the public meetings to be held by the Select Committee on Condominium and Homeowners Association Governance (chaired by Rep. Julio Robaina) have been released to the Cyber Citizens for Justice Group although as of 6:30 pm on January 16th, those meeting dates have not yet been published on the House of Representatives website at www.myfloridahouse.gov under the Select Committee link pasted below. http://www.myfloridahouse.gov/Sections/Documents/publications.aspx?CommitteeId=2436&PublicationType=Committees&DocumentType=Meeting%20Notices&Session=2008&SessionId=57 Public Hearing Dates as Referenced in CCFJ Alert Below: 1. Saturday, January 26th: 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on the South Campus of Broward Community College, Ft. Lauderdale, 7200 Pines Blvd. 2. Saturday, February 9, 2008 in Miami Beach (no location or time announced) 3. Saturday, February 16, 2008, in Orlando (no location or time announced); 4. Saturday, February 23, 2008, in Tampa (no location or time announced); and 5. Final hearing on March 3, 2008 in Tallahassee (no location or time announced). While we have not yet been able to confirm that the dates released by the CCFJ are in fact correct, it is troubling that the dates for these meetings may have been released to only a select group of Floridians and not to the general public. As previously stated in my last alert, we urge you to attend these meetings so the voices of the silent majority may be heard. Please be sure to also question all Committee members as to why the dates for these meetings appear to have been released in advance of general publication to a small group whose inflammatory rhetoric is centered on anti-board, anti-enforcement sentiment. Hopefully, this premature release of information was not done in an effort to assist any particular group's agenda. I have copied and pasted Mr. Bergemann's alert below. Please note that the Select Committee has been empowered by House Speaker Marco Rubio with subpoena powers! Juan Zapata, Rep. Rich Glorioso, Rep. Jimmy Patronis, Jr., Rep. Joseph Gibbons, Rep. Franklin Sands and Rep. In his press release State Representative Julio Robaina stated (quote): "Select Committee members will try to solve as many cases as possible and report the results. Subpoena power has been granted to the committee members to enable them to collect as much information as possible. Special attention will be given to owners with unresolved complaints. Testimony from board members, CAMs and DBPR employees may shed light on why record requests are still pending and why cases are still unresolved." (end quote) I guess that says it all! The second meeting of the Select Committee will be in Miami Beach on February 9th, 2008. Further Meetings will be held in Orlando (February 16th.) and Tampa, February 23, 2008 The final meeting of the committee will be held on March 3rd, 2008, in Tallahassee. A final report will be filed, timely for the upcoming legislative session. The members of the Select Committee are very interested in hearing your grievances, especially about financial irregularities or the unwillingness of board and CAM to follow Florida statutes in regard to document requests. I can assure you, these hearings will be very "interesting" -- to say the least! Participate and be part of it! These hearings will clearly show that reforms of association statutes are long overdue!
